Raising Awareness about Inuit Culture during the Year of the Inuit

The Canadian Government has officially declared 2010 the Year of the Inuit in Canada to raise awareness about Inuit culture and issues.

Mary Simon, the head of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami - an organization representing Canada's four Inuit regions (Nunatsiavut, Nunavik, Nunavut, and Inuvialuit) - hopes to bring national attention to Inuit culture and issues, particularly since Canada is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics.

During the events leading to the Olympics, Simon plans to raise awareness about Inuit culture and issues. An event called "Taste of the Arctic" will be held in Ottawa at the National Gallery of Canada just before the Winter Olympics, to give people a sampling of Inuit arts and culture.
