Polar Research: Take a Course with the International Antarctic Institute
20.11.2007 - Logistics, Other
The IPF is an associate member of the IPY project the International Antarctic Institute (IAI), an Australian-led project which offers multi-disciplinary opportunities in Antarctic education. The object of this institute is to share teaching resources between international partner universities.
This past year has been fruitful for the IAI with the establishment ofthe UNESCO-Cousteau chair. There are now eleven IAI units/courses which have been through the IAI Academic Coordinating Committee. It is hoped that student movement between partner institutes will begin soon. A full description of the new IAI units and courses is available here. The International Antarctic Institute will have their next Council meeting during the SCAR business week, 4-7 July 2008, as part of the Open Science Conference held in St. Petersburg, Russia, 8-11 July 2008.
International Partner Universities
The IAI has sixteen partner institutions, with several organisations supporting the goals of the Institute as associate partners.
Study Programs in the IAI
The IAI offers a range of educational programs, as part of degrees offered by its partner universities. Both undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered.
The idea is that students will enroll at their home institutions, an IAI partner, and take an agreed amount of course units at other IAI member institutions during the second and/or third year of their studies. The degrees would be "jointly badged" by the participating institutions of the IAI.
