China selects site of 4th Antarctic Station

Members of the 29th Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE29) have completed the survey of the site for China's 4th research station in Antarctica.

Adding to the three Chinese stations already existing in Antarctica – Great Wall Station on King George Island, Zhongshan Station in the Larsemann Hills and Kunlun Station on Dome A, the proposed station will be built in the Ross Sea region, next to the South Korean (King Sejong) and Italian (Mario Zucchelli) stations in the region.

The leader of China's Antarctic expedition team, Dr. Qu Tanzhou, said an additional one or two station will be built in Antarctica between now and 2015 under China's 12th Five-Year Plan.
